Off-roading to Alstrom Point, Utah.
Hello loves, hope you’re doing well and staying safe. So you’re thinking of visiting Alstrom Point in Utah? Well, you’re in for a treat! It’s absolutely amazing and it will definitely leave you speechless. A must-add to your travel bucket list. Alrighty then, let’s get to it!
We visited Alstrom Point the second weekend of April and the weather was actually very agreeable. We were invited by a couple on Instagram that does photography and videography for a living. They invited us to join them in this off-roading adventure to take photos of us with our wedding attire. They want to expand their business and build their wedding portfolio, so we were more than happy to help them out. I’m so glad we did because they were such a fun couple and spending the day with them was a blast. Check out them out! Tree of Life Films. I will posting the photos of the shoot once they are edited. Super excited to see them and share them with you guys!

WHERE WE STAYED
My husband and I stayed at the Home2 Suites Hotel by Hilton in Page, Arizona. We usually like to stay at Airbnb’s but since my husband and I get the family and friends rates, it’s cheaper for us to stay at Hilton’s hotels whenever we get the chance. What I loved about it was that our room came with its own kitchen and appliances we needed to cook our own food. It was very spacious and affordable. Also, it was very close to the damn, grocery stores, fast-foods, and gas stations. Highly recommend it.
RENTALS
We rented 4x4 Jeep’s from Lake Powell Jeep Rentals because we read that the only way to get to Alstrom Point is with a high clearance vehicle, a 4WD. However, it is possible to go with a smaller car without 4WD and hike the last 2 miles since the last section of the road gets really rocky. I highly recommend that you take a SUV or bigger to be on the safe side. If you decide to rent from Lake Powell Jeep Rentals, don’t be deceived by the place like we were. We arrived at someone’s house to pick up the Jeeps and were were like, “Are we in the right place?” Don’t worry, you ARE at the right place. The owner was very friendly and answered all our questions about the drive to Alstrom Point. He even added extra water, a first aid kit, fire wood, a shovel and more to make our trip more comfortable. Highly recommend renting from him. On the plus side, you’ll be helping a local business, so it’s a win win!
IMPORTANT***
Make sure you take enough food and water for your trip. Always take more than needed in case of an emergency. We’ve learned our lesson from previous trips, so be smart and remember that YOU are priority. Also, we had no cellphone signal so make sure you have your google maps saved or a GPS in handy to know your way in and out. There are small rock towers as trail markers to lead you to the end, but I highly recommend you guide yourself with a GPS just in case you miss them.
There are also no facilities there (bathrooms, showers, etc), you’re literally out in nature. So if you need to do your business, make sure you are prepared and take toilet paper, bags and plastic containers. Remember to always pack up your trash and leave no trace behind.
OFF-ROADING
We woke up at 3 in the morning because we wanted to get there before sunrise and didn’t want to rush the drive. It took us about an hour and a half to get to Alstrom Point from our hotel because of the 25-mile strip of off-roading.
If you’re starting from Page, Arizona, like we did, you’ll start driving up the US 89 west until you hit Ethan Alley Way. Once you see the sign of Ethan Alley Way, you will take a right until you hit Glen Canyon National Park Road, then make sure you take another right turn. After approximately a half a mile, you’ll reach Wahweap Creek. You will then follow the gravel path until you reach the intersection with Recreation Road 264 then make turn right. After, you will be driving across slick rock until you reach Alstrom Point in approximately 2 miles. If you want it the easy way or you’re finding yourself confused, make right turns only lol. Here’s a very helpful map thanks to Chuck Serventi, if you’re more of a visual learner. Alstrom Point Directions
Most of the road was easy and straight; however, the last 2 miles were driven slow and steady because it began to get pretty rocky and steep. Other than that, the way to the end was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. Make sure you follow the signs, for they will lead you to the viewpoint. Overall it was an easy drive, just take it slow and stay safe. Keep in mind that the road can become hard to drive through when wet, so take note of weather conditions.
When we arrived we were amazed! Watching the sunrise was absolutely amazing! Witnessing the tall Gunsight buttes and the Navajo Mountain as the sun peaked in to greet us good morning was a powerful and indescribable experience. Definitely one of the best views I have ever seen in my life. I am so excited to go back and camp there! It’s a great place to spend a couple of days and enjoy both the sunrise and sunset in the beautiful Alstrom Point!
Hope you have a blast exploring all that Lake Powell has to offer!
Love you all!
